Suspension Bridge

In 1973, grade ten students in the shop program at Downsview Secondary School built a suspension bridge across the ravine as part of their workshop experience. The bridge crossed the river between the Pottery Field  and the Ranger Unit.

After the bridge was built it was used for several years. Both the Board of Education and the camp used it. It is not known whether the bridge was properly inspected for safety. It did not have any signage related to the capacity of the bridge and campers often jumped on it and swayed back and forth.

After several years, the bridge was closed for safety reasons and was eventually dismantled around 1980 when it was considered an insurance liability.

In April 2017, I finally located photos of the original bridge.
