Bathurst Manor Day Camp was the started in 1956 by Bertram David Fine. The name was changed to Forest Valley in 1964.
The camp was located in a valley on the edge of the residential area known as Bathurst Manor. Access to the site was via Blue Forest Drive.
The following descriptive text is taken from the 1958 camp brochure:
“30 ACRES OF BEAUTIFUL FOREST VALLEY”
To satisfy a need in our community for a full and exciting day camp program in a northern outdoor setting.
To give youngsters an opportunity to have a real camp experience each day and to return home for a normal family evening and a restful sleep in the comforts of their own home.
To provide facilities for the family to spend time together in the outdoors.
The camp is ideally situated in a beautiful forest valley a short distance from Bathurst and Sheppard.
LUNCH AND SNACKS
The camp provides a picnic style box lunch as well as an afternoon snack of cookies and juice.
After lunch the campers spend a quiet period lying down, reading, sleeping, or listening to stories or music.
If desired the camp will arrange for your child to be picked up at your home and returned to your door. This will be charged to you at cost.
OUR SWIMMING POOL
Most modern up to date filtered pool under constant supervision of trained personnel.
Your child will learn to swim and advance in the Canadian Red Cross Water Safety Instruction Program. We have convenient dressing rooms, warm showers and modern toilet facilities.
